Static Sites Are Enough
A landing page, a blog and a documentation set have something in common: none of them needs a server. Everything is known at build time, so the site exports to plain HTML and is served from a CDN.
That choice has consequences worth knowing:
- No image optimizer.
images.unoptimizedis on; ship appropriately sized images yourself. - No request-time code. Route handlers and server actions do not exist. Anything dynamic has to be client-side or done at build time.
- Search is prebuilt. Pagefind indexes the exported HTML after the build, which is why it costs nothing at runtime.
The upside is that hosting is free, there is nothing to keep running, and the site cannot be taken down by a traffic spike.
